Saints Unable to Build Win Streak as McKendree Prevails in Three

McKendree Recap
The Maryville volleyball team was aiming to build a two-game winning streak but McKendree stopped the Saints in a three-set decision Friday night. The Bearcats beat the Saints 25-16, 25-17, 25-13 in Lebanon, Ill.

What Happened
Maryville scored three straight points, capped by Cassidy Arndt's kill for a 5-2 advantage. McKendree inched ahead before the Saints tied the score 8-8 on a Kayla Buxton ace. The Bearcats scored six of the next seven points to surge ahead and take a 1-0 lead.

The home squad took a 7-4 lead until the Saints answered by scoring four of the next five points. Faith Ahlhardt had a kill to start the burst, and Allison Lakin's termination of a pass from A.J. Hallemann forged an 8-8 deadlock. Down by two, Elizabeth Eardly and Arndt had kills to push Maryville on top 12-11. The set was tied five more times before a last McKendree run closed out the second set. The Saints had their highest hitting percentage of the match in the set and had 12 kills.

The Saints looked to extend the match as they scored the first four points of set three. A block by the combo of Mikaela Kues and Taylor Schellert was good for the 4-0 edge. Maryville still was up 5-2 but the Bearcats scored seven straight to grab the advantage. A solo block by Ahlardt pulled the Saints to 9-6 but they would not get any closer.
