Barton Tallies 21 Points to Pace Five Saints in Double Figures in 88-66 Win over Missouri S&T

Missouri S&T recap
The Maryville women's basketball team used a pair of 10-0 runs and won its fourth straight home game via an 88-66 decision over Missouri S&T. Mary Barton led five Maryville players in double figures with 21 points and added five assists. Jayda Jansen tallied a season-high 16 points, while Stephanie Sherwood recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
 
What Happened
The Saints broke a 17-17 tie by scoring the final five points first quarter. UU Longs drilled a jumper and Mary Barton splashed a 3-pointer at the end of the opening period for a 22-17 lead. Erin Lenahan knocked down a jumper for a 24-17 edge. The Miners scored to cut the deficit to five before the Saints embarked on a 10-0 run. Lenahan started the run and Steward sank another triple. Barton connected from deep, and another score by Steward was good for a 34-19 lead. Maryville added another 10-0 run to grab a 20-point lead and took a 44-27 advantage into halftime.
 
Early in the third quarter, Missouri S&T trimmed the gap to 46-35. Jayda Jansen sank a 3-pointer, and Stephanie Sherwood finished a three-point play and a 51-35 edge. The Lady Miners again trimmed their deficit to 54-43 and again the Saints answered. Jansen drilled a triple and Sherwood had a basket to stretch the margin to 59-43. Maryville took a 64-51 lead into the final quarter.
 
The Saints advantage stood at 72-61 before sealing the win with a decisive 12-0 burst. Lenahan began the run with a layup, and Steward sank two at the line. Barton followed with a layup, and Jansen hit a jumper. Hunter Stidham scored and Barton's layup closed the burst for an 84-61 lead. The Saints hit five of seven shots while forcing Missouri S&T to miss five straight attempts.
 
The Saints shot 52.5 percent from the field, their best mark in a GLVC game this season. Steward and Sherwood both added 12 points, while Stidhamn finshed with 10.
