St. Louis – The Maryville University baseball team hit three home runs in the series opener to aid the Saints in earning a split with the University of Indianapolis Sunday afternoon at Weber Field. Maryville hit three home runs, including a solo shot late in the contest to get a 5-4 victory. The Greyhounds limited the Maryville attack to three hits in the night cap to earn a 3-1 victory in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener for both teams.
Game One:
Maryville got of the gate quickly in the opener as the Saints used the long ball to grab an early 4-0 lead after one inning of play.
Cody Klotz put the Saints on the scoreboard with a solo blast to stake Maryville to a 1-0 lead. After a single and a walk,
Louis Niemerg drilled a three-run shot to straight away center field to give Maryville the early advantage. The Greyhounds tied the game with a run in the third and three runs in the top of the fifth to knot the contest at 4-4. The game remained tied until
Daniel Covert smashed a homer over the left field wall in the eighth inning to put the Saints ahead 5-4. The Greyhounds threatened in the ninth as they put a pair of runners on base with two outs, but
Drake Lubin ended the rally with a diving catch in center field to preserve Maryville the win.
Hayden House earned his first win of the year with three innings of work as
Tanner Marshall grabbed his second save of the season.

Game Two:
The night cap quickly started out as a pitcher's duel as UIndy's Reid Werner and
Cody Creed from Maryville held each team hitless through three innings of play. The Greyhounds took the lead in the fourth frame with a single run and extended the lead to 3-0 with runs in the sixth and eighth frames. Maryville had an opportunity in the ninth as Klotz opened the frame with a walk and stole second. Niemerg drove in Klotz with a two-out single and moved to second on the throw. He remained at second as the Greyhounds forced a flyout to end the game and earn the doubleheader split.
