Dominic Connolly lashed a two-out single in the bottom of the ninth that scored two runs to give the Maryville baseball team a 5-4 walk-off victory over Indianapolis. The win for the Saints gave them the series victory over the Greyhounds in the opening weekend of Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
Game One:
The Greyhounds opened the scoring in the top of the first with a solo blast to take a 1-0 lead, but the Saints answered in their half of the inning.
Drake Lubin opened the frame with a single and moved to second as
Daniel Covert ripped a single to left. Lubin and Covert scored on a fielding error by the Greyhounds to take an early 2-1 advantage. Connolly extended the Saints lead in the third with an RBI single to right field to push the score to 3-1. UIndy plated a pair of runs in the fifth inning to draw even with Maryville at 3-3 and took the lead in the eighth with an RBI single to make the score 4-3. Dylan Mooney opened the frame with a single and moved to second as Covert was hit by a pitch.
Louis Niemerg drew a walk to load the bases for Connolly, who ripped a two-run single into the gap in right center field to give Maryville a walk-off victory.
