O'Fallon, Mo. – The Maryville baseball team kept Lewis off the scoreboard for the first seven innings and posted a 6-2 victory over Lewis in a non-conference game Tuesday at CarShield Field in O'Fallon, Mo.
Derek Renner had a standout day at the plate as he drove in four runs for the Saints
Game One:
The Saints grabbed the early 2-0 lead when Renner pulled a two-run single through the right side of the Lewis defense in the bottom of the second. The Saints had runners on the corners when
Alex Hoff sprinted to first to avoid a double play and drove in another run for a 3-0 advantage. In the next inning,
Louis Niemerg's RBI grounder pushed the Saints ahead 4-0.
The Maryville pitching staff limited the Flyers to just two hits through the first seven innings. Lewis finally broke through in the top of the eight with two runs. The Saints answered when Renner laced a two-out, two-run double to provide some insurance. Lewis put a runner aboard in the top of the ninth but the Maryville defense turned a double play to end the game.
