Niemerg and Renner Aid Baseball Saints in Sweep of William Jewell

St. Charles, Mo. –  The Maryville baseball team scattered 23 hits, including 11 extra base knocks in a sweep of William Jewell Saturday afternoon at Lindenwood University. Louis Niemerg tossed a five hitter to lead the Saints to a 13-2 win in the opener while Derek Renner drove in five runs in the Maryville 13-6 win in the nightcap.
 
Game One:
After a pair of scoreless innings, the Saints cracked the scoreboard as Drake Lubin laced a single to left field to score Wyatt Elbe as it gave Maryville a 1-0 lead after three innings of play. The Cardinals took the lead in the fourth with a pair of runs to make the score 2-1, but the Saints bounced back in their half of the frame. Dominic Connolly opened the frame with a double and Camden Mericer drove him home with another double to tie the game at 2-2. Elbe gave the Saints the lead in the inning with a double to right field to give Maryville a 3-2 advantage. The Saints tacked on a pair of runs in the fifth as Cody Klotz ripped an RBI triple down the right field line and then scored on a throwing error to stake Maryville to a 5-2 lead. The Saints ended the game with eight runs in the seventh inning as Alex Hoff highlighted the uprising with a grand slam over the left field wall to give the Saints their third win in a row.

Game One:
The Saints grabbed an early lead in the first as Niemerg lofted a sacrifice fly to center field to score Daniel Covert from third to make the score 1-0.  Renner added to the Maryville lead with an RBI double down the left field line to make the score 2-0. The Saints scratched across another run in the frame to extend the lead to 3-0. The Cardinals tied the game with three runs in the top of the third. The Saints regained the lead in the bottom of the third as Elbe hit a sacrifice fly to center field to make the score 4-3. Maryville added another run on a wild pitch to take a 5-3 advantage. Klotz extended the lead to 6-3 with an inside the park homer into the gap in left center. The offense continued to roll as the Saints scored six more runs over the next three innings to take a 12-6 lead. Renner highlighted the outburst with a two-run blast in the seventh frame. Maryville tacked on an insurance run in the eighth to help stretch their winning streak to four games.
