Niemerg Paces Saints in Win over William Jewell

St. Charles, Mo. - Louis Niemerg scattered four hits and drove in four runs to lead the Maryville baseball team to a 9-3 victory over William Jewell Sunday afternoon at Lindenwood University. The win extended the Saints winning streak to five games and it also improved their record in the Great Lakes Valley Conference to 5-1.

Game One:
Niemerg jump started the Saints offense in the second inning with a solo shot to left field to give Maryville an early 1-0 lead. After the Cardinals took the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the third, Niemerg gave the lead right back to Maryville as he drilled a two-run double to left center to make the score 3-2. The Saints tacked on two more runs in the inning to grab a 5-2 advantage. William Jewell pushed across a run in the fourth to cut the Maryville lead to 5-3, but the Saints answered in the fifth. Niemerg hit a double and scored on a Dominic Connolly triple down the right field line to take a 6-3 advantage. Cole Bornhop extended the lead to 7-3 with a single that scored Connolly to push the score to 7-3. Maryville added an insurance run in the seventh as Connolly scored on an error to make the score 8-3. Niemerg added another run batted in in the eighth with an RBI single to give Maryville a 9-3 cushion.
