Rolla, Mo. – The Maryville University baseball team used the long ball in the nightcap to earn a split with Missouri S&T Wednesday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. The Miners exploded for eight runs in the middle innings to take the opener, 11-1, while the Saints hit three round trippers and a pair of doubles to win the nightcap 14-4.
Game One:
The Miners opened the scoring in the home half of the second inning with a run to take a 1-0 lead. Maryville answered in the top of the third as
Daniel Covert drew a walk and scored on a
Louis Niemerg double down the left field line to knot the game at 1-1. Missouri S&T took control of the game with a pair of runs in the fifth and six runs in the sixth frame to grab a 9-1 lead. The Miners scored runs in the seventh and eighth innings to secure the win as the Saints were held to one hit over the last three innings.

Game Two:
The Saints used the long ball to race out to an early lead in the top of the first as Covert ripped a two-run blast down the left field line to give Maryville a 2-0 advantage.
Austin Tapella added to the Maryville lead in the second with a two-run shot of his own to extend the lead to 4-0. The offense continued to produce in the third as
Wyatt Elbe hit an RBI double to push the Maryville lead to 5-0 and in the fourth, the Saints took advantage of four Miner errors and three hits to score five runs and take a 10-0 lead. Niemerg, Elbe, and
Dominic Connolly all had RBI singles in the frame to help in the uprising. The Miners cut the Saints lead to 10-3 with three runs on three hits in the sixth inning. After Missouri S&T added another run in the seventh inning, Maryville scored four runs in the top of the eighth to end the affair.
Cole Bornhop had the big hit of the frame with a three-run homer to give the Saints a 14-4 lead.
Drake Kanallakan earned the win by going 5.2 innings with three hits and five strikeouts.
