Tanner Marshall tossed 5.1 innings of no-hit baseball while
Daniel Covert drove in the winning run in the seventh inning to lead the Maryville baseball team to a 4-3 victory over Missouri S&T Tuesday afternoon at Weber Field.
Game One:
After being held to only one hit over the first three innings, the Saints opened the scoring in the fourth inning as Covert single and moved to third on another single to put runners at the corners. Covert gave the Saints the lead as he scored on a sacrifice fly by
Wyatt Elbe with one out to take a 1-0 lead. Maryville extended the lead in the fifth inning as
Louis Niemerg drilled a two-run blast to right center to give the Saints a 3-0 advantage. The Miners battled back to tie the game with a run in the sixth and a pair of runs in the seventh to make the score 3-3. Maryville regained the lead in the home half of the frame as Covert laced an RBI single to left field to give the Saints a 4-3 lead. Missouri S&T tried to rally in the ninth as they placed runners at second and third, but
Cody Klotz came in the game and retired the final two batter to earn his first save of the year.
