St. Louis –
Cody Klotz and
Ryan Louck gave the Maryville baseball team a pair of outstanding starts on the mound to pace the Saints in a sweep of the University of Missouri-St. Louis Wednesday afternoon at Weber Field. Klotz tossed seven innings and struck out eight batter to lead the Saints to a 7-1 victory in the opener, while Louck gave up a run on four hits in the nightcap to help Maryville to a 13-5 win.
Game One:
After the Tritons pushed across a run in the top of the first, the Saints answered with a run of their own as
Camdon Mercier laced a single through the left to score
Drake Lubin and tie the game at 1-1. Maryville grabbed the lead in the fourth as
Alex Hoff drove in a run with a single and Lubin drew a bases loaded walk to give the Saints a 3-1 advantage.
Wyatt Elbe extended the lead in the fifth frame with an RBI double to left center to push the score to 4-1 while
Jackson Burrell drew another bases loaded walk to make the score 5-1. The Saints added to the lead in the seventh inning as
Dominic Connolly and
Cade Schares each had RBI singles to give a 7-1 lead.

Game Two:
The Saints jumped on the scoreboard in the home half of the first as Lubin singled and advanced to third on a throwing error to start the inning. Elbe brought Lubin home with a double down the right field line to give Maryville an early 1-0 lead. Elbe came around to score on a
Louis Niemerg single to push the lead to 2-0. The Saints took control of the game in the second as they exploded for seven runs in the frame. Elbe and Connolly highlighted the inning with a pair of two-run singles to give Maryville the cushion. Niemerg added to the lead in the third as he drove in a run and Mercier ripped an RBI double to extend the advantage to 11-0. After the Tritons scored runs in the fourth and sixth innings to cut the lead to 11-2, the Saints responded in the sixth as Lubin ripped an RBI double and then scored on a wild pitch to push the lead to 13-2. UMSL plated three runs in the top of the seventh, but that is as close as they got as the Maryville bullpen shut the Tritons down over the next two innings to claim the sweep.
