St. Louis – The Maryville baseball team needed some late inning heroics as they scored two runs in the eighth inning to earn a 3-2 come from behind victory over McKendree Friday afternoon at Weber Field. The win extends the Saints winning streak to three games on the current homestand.
Game One:
The Bearcats opened the scoring in the first with a pair of runs to grab an early 2-0 lead, but the Saints answered in the third frame.
Alex Hoff opened the inning with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. Hoff scored on a wild pitch to cut the Bearcat lead to 2-1. The score remained that way until the Saints gained the lead in the eighth inning. After the Bearcats bullpen walked the bases loaded,
Wyatt Elbe scored on a wild pitch to even the game at 2-2.
Louis Niemerg gave the Saints the lead with two outs as he stole home to give Maryville a 3-2 advantage. McKendree had a chance to tie the game in the ninth with a runner at third with two outs, but
Tanner Marshall struck out the final batter of the game to earn his first win of the year.
