Klotz Three Homers Aids Saints to a Split with Bellarmine

Louisville, Ky. – Cody Klotz laced three home runs on the day while earning the save in the nightcap to aid the Maryville baseball team in a split with Bellarmine Sunday afternoon at Knights Field in Louisville, Ky. The Knights exploded for 11 runs in the first inning of the opener en route to a 17-2 win while Klotz powered the Saints to an 8-7 victory in the last game of the day. 
 
Game One:
The Knights took control of the opening game of the series with 11 runs in the first inning and a run in the second to grab an early 12-0 lead. The Saints cut into the lead in the third as Klotz ripped a solo shot over the center field wall to get Maryville on the scoreboard. Dominic Connolly added the Saints second run of the frame with a triple to score Louis Niemerg to make the score 12-2. The Knights added four runs in the fourth and a run in the fifth to claim the victory.

Game Two:
Camdon Mercier got the Saints offense going in the second inning with a two-run homer to left center field to put Maryville on top 2-0. Klotz extended the Saints lead to 4-0 with his second home run of the day, this time a two-run blast, in the second frame. The Knights cut the lead in half in their half of the inning with a two-run shot of their own to make the score 4-2. Bellarmine evened the contest at 4-4 with a two-run double in the fifth to put the score at 4-4. Maryville reclaimed the lead in the sixth as Connolly, Cade Schares, and Drake Lubin each had RBI singles to give the Saints a 7-4 advantage. The Knights answered  with two runs to cut the Saints lead to 7-6. Klotz extended the Saints lead in the seventh with his third round tripper of the day to put Maryville in front 8-6. Bellarmine cut the lead to 8-7 in the bottom the inning with a solo shot. The Knights made things interesting in the ninth with runners at first and second, but Klotz came in and retired the final two batters to earn the save.
