Ozark, Mo. – The Maryville University baseball team scattered 18 hits on the afternoon, including two extra-base hits in the nightcap, to earn a split with Drury University Sunday afternoon at US Baseball Park in Ozark, Mo. The Panthers scored a pair of late runs in the opener to grab a 7-6 win. Maryville took control of the nightcap in the middle innings to earn a 7-4 victory and snap Drury's seven-game winning streak.
Game One:
The Panthers struck in the bottom of the first with a home run to take a 1-0 lead, but the Saints answered in the second frame. After a pair of singles and a walk,
Dominic Connolly drove in Maryville's first run with a ground ball in the infield to tie the game at 1-1. The Panthers regained the lead in the third with a grand slam home run to take a 5-1 advantage. The Saints cut into the lead in the fourth as
Derek Renner drove in
Camdon Mercier on an infield grounder to make the score 5-2. Maryville drew even with the Panthers in the fifth as
Cody Klotz and
Daniel Covert each hit RBI singles, and Connolly lifted a sacrifice fly to center to tie the contest at 5-5.
Louis Niemerg gave Maryville the lead in the sixth with an RBI single to center field to push the Saints ahead 6-5. Drury answered in its half of the sixth with a pair of runs to re-take the lead 7-6. Maryville had a chance to tie the game in the top of ninth with runners at second and third with two outs, but the Panthers were able to get a strikeout to secure the win.

Drake Lubin added to the Maryville advantage as he drove in
Jackson Burrell in the fifth to make the score 3-1. The Saints offense continued to roll in the sixth as Connolly laced a triple to left field to score Mercier and push the lead to 4-1. After the Panthers closed the gap in their half of the sixth to 4-3, Maryville took control of the game as
Wyatt Elbe ripped a two-run double down the left field line and scored on a Niemerg single up the middle to take a 7-3 advantage. Drury plated a run in the eighth inning to cut the lead to 7-4, but
Tanner Marshall retired the final six Panther batters to earn his fifth save of the season.
