Kansas City, Mo. – The Maryville University baseball team scattered 23 hits on the night as the Saints earned a sweep of Rockhurst Friday evening at Loyola Baseball Park in Kansas City, Mo.
Louis Niemerg gave the Saints a solid seven innings on the mound to earn a 5-3 win, while Maryville needed a late-inning comeback in the nightcap to grab a 5-2 victory in 10 innings.

Game One:
The Hawks opened the scoring in the second inning with three runs to grab an early 3-0 lead, but the Saints answered in the top of the third.
Drake Lubin hit an infield single and stole second base with one out in the frame. After moving to third on a
Wyatt Elbe single, Lubin scored as Niemerg grounded into a fielder choice to cut the Rockhurst lead to 3-1. Maryville continued to battle back in the fifth as Elbe started the inning with another single and scored on a throwing error to cut the advantage to 3-2. The Saints took their first lead of the day as they pushed across two more runs in the inning on a fielding error in the fifth to take a 4-3 advantage.
Derek Renner added to the Maryville lead with an RBI single in the ninth to put the Saints on top 5-3.Â

Game Two:
After five innings of scoreless baseball which saw each team able to only get two hits apiece, the Saints cracked the scoreboard in the top of the sixth. Connolly got things going for Maryville with a one-out triple to center field and scored as Klotz hit an infield single to give the Saints a 1-0 advantage. The Hawks evened the contest in the seventh with a run and took the lead in the eighth as they scored another run on three hits to take a 2-1 advantage. The Saints tied the game again in the ninth as
Camdon Mercier laced a double down the left field line to score Klotz to even the game at 2-2. Maryville regained the lead in the 10
th frame as Connolly and Klotz each ripped RBI singles to put the Saints out front 4-2. Niemerg added an insurance run in the 10th as he scored on a balk to make the score 5-2.Â
