Cody Klotz drove in a pair of runs and threw five innings of scoreless baseball to aid the Maryville University baseball team to a 6-1 win over the University of Missouri-St. Louis Tuesday afternoon at UMSL Baseball Field in Normandy, Mo. The win for the Saints extends their current winning streak to six games, which is the longest streak since Maryville won nine straight back in 2017.
Game One:
Klotz opened the scoring in the first inning as he lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to score
Wyatt Elbe, who drew a one-out walk and moved to third on a
Louis Niemerg double, to give Maryville an early 1-0 lead. Maryville added a run in the top of the fourth as
Daniel Covert opened the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a stolen base. Covert moved to third on a groundout and scored as
Derek Renner hit a sacrifice fly to right field to give the Saints a 2-0 advantage. Klotz picked up his second RBI of the game with a single up the middle in the fifth to extend the Maryville lead to 3-0. The offense continued to produce in the fifth as
Camdon Mercier ripped a double off the left field wall to score Klotz and give Maryville a 4-0 lead. Elbe tacked on another run in the sixth as he laced an RBI single to left field to put the Saints ahead 5-0. The Tritons cut into the Maryville lead with a run in the sixth inning to make the score 5-1, but the Saints added to their advantage in the eighth as
Drake Lubin hit a sacrifice fly to right field to keep Maryville ahead 6-1.
