Evansville, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana used a pair of late-inning comebacks to gain of sweep of the Maryville University baseball team Friday evening at USI Baseball Field in Evansville, Ind. The Screaming Eagles pushed across four runs in the eighth inning of the opener to earn a 9-7 victory. Southern Indiana swept the double header in the nightcap with a five run ninth inning, that included a walk-off grand slam, to defeat the Saints 7-6.
 
Game One:
The Screaming Eagles grabbed an early lead in the first frame with a run to take a 1-0 advantage. The Saints tied the game in the third as Alex Hoff drew a walk and scored from first on a fielding error to make the score 1-1. Southern Indiana regained the lead with runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 3-1 advantage, but the Saints used the long ball to go on top in the sixth. Louis Niemerg hit a two-run blast and Cody Klotz followed that with a solo shot to push Maryville ahead of the Screaming Eagles 4-3. Hoff added the advantage in the seventh with another two-run homer to extend the lead to 6-3. Southern Indiana cut the deficit to 6-5 in the seventh with two runs of their own. Wyatt Elbe pushed the lead to 7-5 with a home run to open the eighth inning, but that was not enough as the Screaming Eagles plated four runs in the bottom of the frame to retake the lead at 9-7. Maryville put the tying run on base in the ninth, but USI forced a double play to end the uprising and claim the victory to snap the Saints nine game winning streak.

Game Two:
Southern Indiana once again raced out to an early lead with runs in the first and second frames to gain a 2-0 advantage. Maryville answered in the fourth as Hoff smacked an RBI double and moved to third on a fielding error. Hoff scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 2-2. Daniel Covert put the Saints on top 3-2 with an RBI double in the fifth. The Saints added to the advantage in the eighth as Connolly hit a one out double and scored on another Screaming Eagle miscue to push the score to 4-2. Connolly extended the Maryville lead to 6-2 in the ninth with a two-run single, but that was not enough as Southern Indiana scored five times in the ninth to earn the sweep.
