Alex Johnson scored a pair of goals to power the Maryville University women's soccer team to a 5-0 victory over Great Lakes Valley Conference foe Drury Friday afternoon at Maryville Field.
What Happened – Johnson opened the scoring for the Saints as she headed a rebound from the goalkeeper into the lower left corner of the net in the 26
thminute to give Maryville a 1-0 lead.
Amanda Kaltwasser extended the lead two minutes later as she collected a pass from
Caite Huesgen and scored from 10-yards out to put the Saints ahead 2-0. The offensive fireworks continued in the 42
ndminute as
Kennedy Reeser scored her first goal of the season off a pass from
Kayla Kowal to give Maryville a 3-0 advantage. Johnson pushed the Maryville lead to 4-0 in the 48
thminute as she buried a corner kick into the upper right corner of the goal.
Kristen Sparks wrapped up the scoring for the Saints as she scored her first goal of the year in the 71
stminute to give Maryville a 5-0 lead.
Inside the Numbers – The Saints outshot the Panthers 17-4 with nine of those being on frame. With the shutout, the Saints have not allowed a goal thus far in the season.
