St. Louis – Two second-half goals helped the Maryville women's soccer team remain undefeated with a 3-1 victory over Southwest Baptist. The 4-0-0 start is the best for the Saints since the 2006 team opened with five consecutive wins.
What Happened
Kennedy Reeser collected a pass from
Sammi Fulson and fired a shot that hit the inside of the right post. The ball bounced back onto the field but then spun into the net to give the Saints a 1-0 edge in the 37th minute. In the waning seconds of the half, SBU drew level with a wind-aided shot that dipped below the crossbar.
In the 55th minute of play,
Madison Schmied pushed a ball down the left side, and
Madison Canoy outran the SBU defense to the corner. Canoy dropped the ball back to Johnson who lifted the ball into the upper right corner for a 2-1 lead.
Kristen Sparks sealed the win with a score off a corner kick by
Mariah Loya.

Alex Johnson notched her fourth goal of the season.
Alison Riddle made one save to record her second win.
Reeser and Sparks both picked up their second scores on the year.
The contest was SBU's first visit to Maryville as a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
