Saints Take One Set in Each Match on Final Day of Lindenwood Challenge

The Maryville volleyball team took one set in each match but ended up losing both tilts on the final day of the Lindenwood Challenge. Flager defeated the Saints 25-21, 20-25, 25-16, 25-25. Maryville won set over versus Lindenwood but the Lady Lions took the final three sets in a 20-25, 25-15, 25-21, 25-20 decision.
 
Flager held on late in set one but the Saints answered by limiting their foes to a .057 mark in the second. Maryville used a 5-0 run early in the third set before Flager had a 7-0 burst to take the lead. The Saints tallied four points over a five-point stretch and got as close as 19-13 but Flager closed out the match. Cassidy Arndt notched 12 kills and 11 digs, while Elizabeth Eardly finished with 10 kills. Ali Vaughn had a season-high 20 assists, and A.J. Hallemann had a match-high 22 digs.
 
In the opening set against Lindenwood, the Saints cranked out a .324 hitting percentage. Taylor Schellert had three kills in a 4-1 run as the Saints took a 13-9 edge. LU closed to 21-19 but another kill by Schellert keyed a 3-0 run as Maryville took the 1-0 lead. The Lady Lions answered with a .333 mark in set two, and the Lindenwood defense kept the Saints attack down in the last two sets. Schellert had nine kills, while Arndt and Adriann Welte both added eight kills. Kayla Buxton handed out 18 assists, and Hallemann came up with 15 digs.

Hallemann was selected to the Lindenwood Challenge All-Tournament team after recording 50 digs and three assists over 11 sets played in St. Charles, Mo.
 
After three tournaments, the Saints carry a 3-8 record into their home opener. Maryville welcomes Oakland City for a 6 p.m. start Wednesday, Sept. 25, in Moloney Arena.
