Mirza Hasecic scored midway through the first half while the sixth-ranked Maryville men's soccer team added a pair of goals late in the contest to defeat Illinois Springfield 3-0 Sunday afternoon at Maryville Field.
What Happened – The Saints cracked the scoreboard in the 21
st minute as Hasecic collected a crossing pass from
Rasmus Tauts and scored on a diving header from seven yards out to put Maryville ahead 1-0.
Braden Johnson scored his team-high fifth goal of the season in the 78
th minute with a hard shot into the upper left corner of the goal to extend the lead to 2-0.
JD Sohn put the game away in the 90
th minute as he took a ball after a turnover and slotted a shot to the left side of the net to make the score 3-0.
Inside the Numbers –The Saints out shot the Prairie Stars 10-3 in the contest and did not allow a shot on frame.
Liam Walraven earned his fifth clean sheet of the season as the Saints have not allowed a goal in the last 396 minutes of play. This is the first time that the Saints have defeated UIS since 2014.
