In its season opener at a tournament hosted by Christian Brothers University, the Maryville volleyball team rallied to defeat the hosts 3-2. The Saints won by set scores of 14-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-18, 15-11. Maryville rallied from an 0-2 deficit to win a match for the first time since Sept. 14, 2017, against Southern Indiana.
Cassidy Arndt had a team-high 15 kills, while
Elizabeth Eardly recorded 14 kills while hitting .522.
Mikaela Kues narrowly missed a triple-double with 25 assists, 10 digs and eight kills.

The Lady Bucs hit .400 in the first set and held off a late Maryville charge in the second set to take a 2-0 lead. The Saints picked up their play and had their best hitting percentage of the day in the third set. Maryville went on a key 4-1 run to take its first set of the match. In the fourth, Kues served nine straight times as the Saints reeled off a 10-0 run to grab a double-digit lead and force a decisive fifth set.

The Saints were down 6-5 in the fifth but scored three straight points. Kues had two straight kills and a CBU error put Maryville up 8-6. The Saints took charge with a 4-1 run and eventually went up 13-9. The teams traded points, and Maryville closed out the match on a CBU hitting error. The Saints hit .500 in the final set to power to its first win of the season.
