St. Louis – The Maryville University men's soccer team scored a pair of goals early in the second half and needed a few key defensive plays late in the contest to earn a 2-1 victory over Christian Brothers University Sunday afternoon at Maryville Field.
What Happened – The Bucs opened the scoring in the 21
st minute with a goal off a corner kick to grab an early 1-0 lead over the Saints. Maryville evened the game early in the second half as
Rasmus Tauts took a pass from
Ben Brodie and scored on a strike from 13-yards out to make the score 1-1in the 49
th minute.
Grady Schliepsiek put the Saints on top in the 64
th minute as he broke free down the right side of the field and buried a pass from
Mirza Hasecic into the lower left side of the goal to give Maryville a 2-1 advantage. The Bucs had two opportunities late in the match, but the Maryville defense was able to maintain the lead.
Inside the Numbers – Maryville outshot the Bucs 9-7 in the match with five of those shots being on frame.
Emil Antonacci led the Maryville attack with two shots while seven other players each had a shot a piece.
