Barton Tallies Second Most Points in School History with 38 Against Missouri S&T

Missouri S&T recap
Mary Barton poured in the second-highest single-game total in school history with 38 points but could not stop Missouri S&T from escaping from Moloney Arena with an 82-74 victory Monday night. Barton's 38 points is topped only by the school record of 39 by Lyndsey Bell set Feb. 2, 2002. Hunter Stidham added 10 points, while UU Longs tied her career high for the second straight game with 11 rebounds.

What Happened
The Saints trailed 18-7 before embarking on a 17-0 run to grab the lead. Barton hit a jumper to start the run, and Longs added a long bucket. Barton scored to end the first quarter and again to start the second. Stidham and Jayda Jansen drained consecutive 3-pointers, and a three-point play by Barton pushed the Saints ahead 24-18 at the 7:55 mark of the quarter. Missouri S&T went almost six minutes without scoring. The game stayed close in the second and a Barton 3-pointer pushed the Saints ahead 33-31. However, the Miners hit a late 3-pointer to grab a 34-33 lead at halftime.

The teams traded the lead five times in the third quarter, and UU Longs sank a 3-pointer for a 45-42 lead. The Miners tallied the next six points before Olivia Kastens hit two free throws. Barton made two at the line to cut the Missouri S&T margin down to 52-50 with 1:37 left in the quarter. The visitors scored the last four points in the third, and began the fourth with six more points. Barton brought the Saints back with a triple and a runner in the lane for a 62-55 deficit at the 6:40 mark. The Saints kept cutting into the Miner lead and closed the gap to 78-72 with 24 seconds left. Missouri S&T closed out the game by hitting four straight free throws.
