Big Second Half Pushes Quincy Past Saints

Quincy recap
Despite putting three players in double figures, the Maryville men's basketball team lost 87-67 at Quincy Thursday night in Pepsi Arena. The home-standing Hawks used a big run to open the second half to break away from a three-point halftime margin over the Saints. Ross Ryan tallied a season-high 15 points, while Parker Long matched that output with 15 points, too. Maryville shot 50 percent (11-of-22) from 3-point range.

What Happened
Parker Long hit two 3-pointers to open the game as the Saints led early. The contest stayed close before Jalen Gant and Long sank consecutive jumpers for a 21-19 edge. Another jumper by Long provided Maryville with its last lead of the half at 23-21. Quincy broke a 33-all tie by scoring six straight but Ross Ryan hit his first 3-pointer of the year as the Saints were only down 39-36 at halftime.

However, Quincy started the second half red-hot and used a big run to open up a double-digit led. The Saints offense struggled and did not score until Malik Barnett drilled a 3-pointer. Ryan sank consecutive jumpers as the Saints cut the deficit to 63-45. Long had a three-point play, and consecutive 3-pointers by Chris White brought Maryville to within 70-54 with eight minutes to play. The Saints were unable to trim the margin to single figures as the Hawks held on.
