Owen Long Explodes for 39 Points, Third Most in School History, in 76-67 win over Missouri S&T

Owen Long exploded for 39 points, tied for the third most in program history and the highest total in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game, to push the Maryville men's basketball team to a 76-67 triumph over Missouri S&T. The win is the first for new head coach Jesse Shaw at Maryville. Long hit 16-of-22 shot from the field, tied for the second most field goals in program records.
 
What Happened
The Saints led 34-32 at halftime but the game was tied at 34-all early in the second half. Daniel Farris scored on a jumper, and the Miners made one free throw. Long scored in the lane, and JT Morgan drilled a 3-pointer for a 41-35 edge. Missouri S&T rallied with three straight 3-pointers before Long tied the game at 44-44.
 
The visitors took a lead at 48-45 at the 12:42 mark before the Saints answered with an 11-0 run. Ari Jackson drained a triple, and Long scored six straight points. Gary Pendleton scored in traffic for a 56-48 advantage with 9:20 to play. The game stayed close and was deadlocked at 63-63. Long drained a long 3-pointer for a 66-63 advantage with 3:23 remaining. The Miners hit a jumper before Davis Walker scored on Maryville's next possession. Kamto Eze came up with a crucial blocked shot and grabbed the rebound. JT Morgan scored off a feed from Farris and a 70-65 cushion. The Saints had a stop and sealed the victory with six free throws in the final minute.

Kamto Eze's 10 rebounds are his most since he grabbed 11 in the 2019-20 season opener.
