Jai Benson fired in three goals and finished with four points but the Maryville men's lacrosse team lost its 2020 opener to Florida Tech 11-8. The visiting Panthers scored four goals in the fourth quarter to rally for the win. Jacob Allen matched Benson with four points on two goals and two assists.
 
What Happened
The Saints broke on top as Justin Morgan tallied the first goal of the season at the 11:06 mark. The Panthers scored the next four goals before Jayden Fraser found the back of the net with one second left in the first quarter. Benson picked up his first goal as the Saints reeled off five straight. Morgan scored his second to tie the game at 4-4. Jacob Allen and Benson put Maryville ahead 6-4 but FIT tied the game at 6-6 halftime.
 
Benson gave the Saints a 7-6 advantage but the Panthers tied the game in the third. Allen answered for Maryville as the Saints took an 8-7 lead into the final quarter. However, the Panthers scored twice in less than two minutes early in the fourth to retake the lead for the final time. The Saints forced a school-record 36 turnovers on the day by Florida Tech.
