St. Louis – Davenport scored a run in every inning and pounded out 18 hits, including six extra-base hits, to defeat the Maryville University baseball team in the opener of a four-game series Friday afternoon at Weber Field.
Game One:
After the Panthers scored a run in the first three innings to grab an early 3-0, the Saints answered with a pair of runs in the home half of the frame.
Dominic Connolly drove in
Nick Hofmann to put Maryville on the scoreboard.
Wyatt Elbe then ripped a home run over the right field wall to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Davenport added eight more runs over the next four innings to extend the lead to 11-2 before Maryville scratched across two more runs in the seventh.
Desmond Woods opened the inning with a single and moved to second on a stolen base. After an
Alex Hoff single put runners at the corners,
Elias Stevens lifted a sacrifice fly to center to score Woods push the score to 11-3. Hoff moved to third on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch to make the score 11-4. The Panthers pushed across four runs over the last two frames to secure the win.
