Saints Baseball Swept by Davenport

St. Louis – The Maryville baseball team could not overcome the big inning as the Saints dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Davenport Saturday afternoon at Weber Field. The Panthers scored eight runs in the final two innings of the opener en route to a 9-1 win. Davenport then broke open a tie game in the nightcap with a four run outburst in the fourth to take an 8-4 victory over Maryville.

Game One:
The Saints opened the scoring in the second inning as Austin Tapella started the frame with a walk and moved to second when Collin Turnbeaugh was hit by a pitch. After a wild pitch advanced the runners to second and third, Tapella scored on an infield single by Hayden Thornton to put Maryville on top 1-0. The Panthers evened the contest with a run in the fourth to make the score 1-1.

Davenport took control of the game in the sixth as they scored four times to take a 5-1 lead. The Panthers added four more runs in the top of the sixth and retired six of the last Maryville batters to claim the win.
