Men's Hockey Falls to McKendree in MCH Conference Semifinal

St. Louis – The Maryville men's hockey team ended its season this past weekend with a loss to McKendree 7-6 in overtime in the semifinals of the Midwest College Hockey Conference tournament at the Maryville University Hockey Center.

In the quarterfinal, the Saints took on Northern Illinois and after a valiant come from behind attempt by NIU, Maryville was able to fend off the Huskies for a 6-3 win. Saint goals were scored by Christian Alvegran (3), Damian Caringi, Trevor Henson, and Kole Mudra. Ed Coffey made 15 saves in the program's first postseason victory.

With Midland defeating Waldorf in the second game Friday night, Maryville had a date to play in town rival and the No. 1 seed McKendree Saturday afternoon. The rivalry game did not disappoint. The Bearcats dominated the first 30 minutes of the game with McKendree holding a commanding 6-1 lead. After the Bearcats were assessed a five-minute major in the second period, the Saints scored twice to head into the final period only down 6-3. Maryville scored just 40 seconds into the third and then again three minutes later on the power play to cut the deficit to 6-5. With 2:31 left in the game, Coach Hogan pulled his goalie and set up his marching orders. After multiple icings and a barrage of shots, Brad Boudreau scored with only 24 second left to tie the game at 6-6. Unfortunately for the Saints, McKendree scored just 3:05 into overtime to negate the Saints heroic comeback attempt and advanced to the championship game with a 7-6 win. McKendree won the championship game vs. Illinois State Sunday afternoon by a score of 4-1.

The Maryville ACHA D1 team finished the season with a 1-1 record in postseason play accumulating to a final season record of 17-21-2. After the University's first season of ACHA D1 play this year, the highly competitive Saints have high expectations leading into the 20-21 season.
