For the third consecutive year, the Maryville University wrestling squad recorded the highest team grade point average as recognized by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) to earn the Academic Team National Championship. During the 2019-20 academic year, the Saints wrestlers recorded a 3.695 team GPA to pace all NCAA Division II schools. The Saints improved on their sparkling 3.556 team GPA from a year ago.
Â
"We try to treat this on the same level as an All-American in our program," Saints head coach
Mike Denney said to the NWCA. "We are proud of our guys for their work on the academic side. The culture that we have is what allows us to keep this going; we are so thankful and grateful. I sincerely thank the NWCA for honoring the academic side of our sport, Jim Koch for starting this and to the current committee for their work to continue these honors."
