Quincy Recap
Owen Long rained down 35 points, including 24 in the first half, at Quincy to pace the Maryville men's basketball team in an 86-75 victory Thursday evening. He is believed to be just the second Saints player to score at least 30 points three times in the same season. Long drilled seven of his 11 shots from 3-point range and shot 50 percent from the field.
Davis Walker scored a season-high 17 points, while
Daniel Farris and
Ari Jackson both finished with 13 points.

What Happened
Midway through the first half, the Saints were holding on to a slim 20-18 edge. Farris sank two free throws, and Long drilled a 3-pointer to spark the offense. After three Quincy free throws, Long answered with another trey. He added four consecutive free throws as Maryville went up 32-23. The Hawks chipped away at the deficit but Maryville took a 42-39 lead at intermission.

Three minutes into the second half, Quincy tied the contest at 46-46. Walker scored in the lane to give the Saints a lead they would not surrender the rest of the way.
Donovan Parker sank a 3-pointer, and Maryville was still up 51-48 before taking control. Walker converted two at the line, and Long splashed in a 3-pointer. Walker sank a jumper as the Saints built a double-digit lead of 58-48. Jackson's bucket in the lane was good that closed out a 9-0 burst for a 60-48 lead with 12:52 to play.

Quincy got as close as 64-58 but the Saints answered with a 10-1 run to re-establish control. A layup by
Kamto Eze and three more free throws by Long built the largest margin of the day at 80-62 with five minutes remaining. The lead never dipped below 11 the rest of the way. Led by Long, the Saints hit 10 3-pointers and converted 22 free throws. The Maryville defense held Quincy to 37 percent shooting in the second half.

What's Next?
The Saints trek to Kirksville, Mo., Saturday, Jan. 16, to take on #12 Truman State. Maryville handed the Bulldogs their only defeat of the season on New Year's Eve.
