Weekend Saints Hockey Recap

M1 Winning Streak Broken by Top Ranked Lindenwood
This past weekend, the No. 11 nationally ranked Maryville ACHA Men's 1 Hockey team had their season's opening seven game winning streak snapped by the No. two nationally ranked Lindenwood University Lions. The Saints fell Friday 4-1 and Saturday 5-1. Ed Coffey made 29 saves in the loss Friday, with Anthony Stavrou scoring the lone Saints goal. On Saturday, TJ Prexler tallied the one goal for the Saints with sophomore Dominic Boily making 33 saves.

The Saints, now 7-2, will look to rebound as they travel to Iowa State for their first road trip of the season. The Iowa State cyclones are 10-0 this season and ranked fifth nationally. Puck drops are 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 22, and Saturday, Oct. 23.

Men's D2 Hockey Team Off to a Flying Start
The Saints welcomed in the Roosevelt University Lakers to town this past weekend, beating the Lakers 8-2 on Friday and 10-0 on Saturday. Jens Julussen was the player of the weekend, securing a total of 10 points with seven goals and three assists. Senior goalie Scout Stalcup recorded his sixth win of the season Friday night which leads the country in D2 games won amongst goaltenders. Junior netminder Hampus Blomdahl made 16 saves in Saturday's win for his second win of the season.

With wins against Roosevelt, the Saints sit at a record of 8-2 a third of their way through the season. The D2 Dawgs will be back on the ice for a marque matchup against the University of Missouri this weekend. The Tigers come to town for a Friday – Saturday series on Oct. 29 and Oct. 30. Puck drops are at 8:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. respectively.

In Just Second Season, W1 Hockey Shows Promise
Last school season, due to COVID-19, the inaugural campaign for the Saints was shortened to just a spring semester slate of games. In the toughest women's conference in ACHA Women's 1 hockey, Maryville improved as the season went but only recorded 3 wins, totaling a 3-13 record. Now, in just their second season, after this year's first 6 games, the Saints are one win away from matching last season's total.

Maryville sits at a record of 2-4 with wins against Miami of Ohio (3-2) and McKendree University (2-1). The Saints take action next against Aquinas University this upcoming weekend at the Maryville University Hockey Center. Puck drop is at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, and 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24.
