Brodie and Di Pierri Push Saints Past Screaming Eagles 2-0

Evansville, Ind. – Freshman Alberto Di Pierri scored the first goal of his young career for the Maryville University men's soccer team Friday evening in a 2-0 victory over the University of Southern Indiana. Senior Ben Brodie also found the scoresheet early in the first half with his second goal of the year.

The Run of Play – The match started with goalkeeper Nick Hemann making a comfortable save in the fifth minute. The Saints offense quickly found a spark in the 17th minute. Emil Antonacci launched a one-time ball from half field that Ricardo Andrade was able to run down, and the winger then sent in a cross to a wide-open Brodie at the penalty spot where he knocked it home to give the road team a 1-0 lead.

The Saints continued to dominate in the second half with multiple shots on frame. The match was put away in the 83rd minute when senior Cedric Sengl took a corner kick that Di Pierri headed home to seal the 2-0 victory.

Inside the Numbers – The win gives the men's soccer program three straight years of having a seven-game win streak during the regular season.
