St. Louis, Mo. – The Maryville University men's soccer team saw its eight-game win streak come to an end Friday afternoon in a 2-1 loss to Lewis University. An own goal by the Flyers put the Saints within striking distance in the second half but the home team was unable to find an equalizer.

The Run of Play – The Flyers came out of the gate firing and took advantage of the wet field conditions with two goals in the first six minutes. The Saints pressed to get back into the match but went into the half down 2-0.

Early in the second half,
Ricardo Andrade fired a close range shot that was blocked and
Victor DeGiorgio forced the opposing 'keeper into a diving save as Maryville started to build momentum. In the 58
th minute,
Carter Reiss and
Mason Crew pinged together a few passes that left a 50-50 ball in the box and a Flyer defender got a toe to it and sent it past his own goalie to put the Saints on the board. Maryville continued to press and even had three consecutive corner kicks in the final three minutes but couldn't break through and fell 2-1.
