Keck Pounds Down 25 Kills to Lead Saints Past William Jewell in Five-Set Thriller

St. Louis – Taylor Keck set a Maryville record for kills in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match with 25 to power the Saints in a five-set thriller over William Jewell Tuesday night in Moloney Arena. The Saints won by set scores of 25-23, 19-25, 20-25, 25-20, 15-8. Keck's 25 kills are also the fifth most in a match in program history and the highest total since Dawn Robinson had 30 against Fontbonne Oct. 19, 1997.

What Happened
The Saints stormed to an early 1-0 lead by winning the opening set 25-23. The Cardinals rallied to take sets two and three setting up a dramatic rally for Maryville. The Saints scored the first three points of set four by kills by Karolina Rodowski, Grace Knadler and Mikaela Kues. Maryville held a 12-9 lead before going on a 4-0 burst. William Jewell scored a point but a Keck kill sparked another 5-0 run as the Saints hit a match-high .333 and forced a decisive fifth set.

In the fifth set, the Saints went ahead after three miscues by the Cardinals. A kill by Knadler built a 5-2 edge for the Saints. After a WJC point, the Saints scored two straight after a Cardinals error and an A.J. Hallemann service ace for a 7-3 lead. Maryville's margin stood at 9-6 prior to a WJC hitting error and a kill by Keck for an 11-6 lead. The Cardinals got to within 12-8 but the Saints scored three straight to close out their first GLVC victory of the season. The Maryville defense held William Jewell to just two kills and a .000 hitting percentage in the final set.
