Scales and Jackson Score 15 Points Apiece But Walsh Holds Off Saints

Normandy, Mo. – Despite 15 points apiece from Cameron Scales and Ari Jackson, the Maryville men's basketball was unable to sweep its two games at the Crossover Tournament as the Saints fell to Walsh 81-73 Sunday afternoon. The contest was played at UMSL's Mark Twain Building. The Saints hit 11 3-pointers on the day, paced by four from Scales. Davis Walker added 10 points to boost the Maryville offense.

What Happened:
Dylan Ingram sank a 3-pointer to push the Saints ahead 12-11, and his layup built a 14-11 edge. Jackson and Scales sandwiched 3-pointers around a Walsh bucket as Maryville went up 20-15. Davis Walker scored as the Saints took their largest lead of the day at 22-15 with 11 minutes left in the first half. Maryville still was up 26-19 after a Ben Palacios bucket with 7:38 before halftime. Walker drained a triple for a 29-24 margin but Walsh scored seven straight points to jump ahead. JT Morgan tied the tilt at 31-31 but the Cavaliers went on a 7-0 run and took a 49-35 lead into halftime. Walsh finished the first half shooting 55.9 percent from the field.

Walsh kept a double-digit lead for most of the second half as the Saints stayed close. Scales sank a 3-pointer to bring Maryville to 71-61 with just under five minutes left in the game. Later, he finished in the lane with a short jumper and was fouled. Scales' free throw trimmed the gap down to 72-64 with just under two minutes to play. The Saints defense forced a desperation 3-pointer at the shot clock buzzer but the ball bounced twice on the rim and fell in for a 75-64 lead with 1:07 to play. Maryville cut the deficit to eight two more times but Walsh held on to prevent the Saints from a two-game winning streak.
