Quincy Recap
The Maryville volleyball team was tripped up Thursday night at No. 9 Quincy as the Hawks won 25-13, 25-23, 25-18. Hannah Scrum had a team-high 10 kills and four blocks, while Rachel Hurt added nine kills. Abbie Schnell handed out a season-high 32 assists to direct the Maryville offensive attack.
 
What Happened
The set was tied at 2-2 before Quincy scored seven straight to jump in front. Hannah Scrum had a kill as the Saints finally stopped the run. Mikaela Kues put down a shot until the Hawks tallied four of the next five points. Maryville inched closer as they scored three times but the Hawks hit a sizzling .405 in the opening set to take the lead.
 
QU scored the first two points until kills by Avery Bell and Kues tied set two. After a point by the Hawks, Kues tacked on a kill, and Scrum and Karolina Rodowski had a block for a 4-3 edge. The teams traded being out front until Quincy took an 11-9 lead. The Saints answered with three straight. Bell had a kill, followed by a block by Bell and Scrum, and a kill by Schnell handed Maryville a 12-11 edge. The set stayed close throughout as neither team led by more than three points. Quincy again took a 23-20 margin until the Saints tied the score. After a block by Kues and Rodowski, Schnell had a setter tip for a point and a QU error tied the set at 23-23. However, a Maryville hitting error and a crosscourt kill by the Hawks gave QU a 25-23 win in the set. The Saints had a higher hitting percentage than the Hawks and recorded three more kills but QU still prevailed.
 
Quincy tallied the first three points of set three and held a 6-4 margin. After a Rodowski kill, QU committed an error to tie score at 6-6. However, the home squad scored five of the next six points. Rachel Hurt had a kill to pull Maryville to within 12-9. The Hawks used a 4-1 run before a Scrum kill but QU scored four straight to take control.

The Saints head to Indianapolis, Ind., for their next matches Saturday, Feb. 20. Maryville faces UIndy and then takes on Drury for a neutral site contest.
