Maryville shot 63.6 percent in the second half and recorded the season sweep of city-rival Missouri-St. Louis with a 73-70 triumph Saturday in the Mark Twain Building.
Jayda Jansen scored a game-high 23 points, while
Antoinette Mussorici finished with 19 points, tied for the team lead with five rebounds and dished out five assists.

What Happened
Jayda Jansen carried the early offense by sinking three 3-pointers for the Saints to help take a 10-7 lead. UMSL went on top 14-7 before buckets by
Kate Rolfes and
Antoinette Mussorici tied the game at 14-14 after the first quarter. The teams traded the lead seven times in the early portion of the second. UMSL was up 28-27 until
Maddy Meehan converted a layup, and
Olivia Kastens drained a corner 3-pointer for a 32-28 lead. UMSL hit two late 3-pointers to take a 39-37 lead into the break. The Saints took care of the ball and only had three turnovers in the first 20 minutes.

UMSL still led 43-39 before the Saints reeled off seven straight points.
Rylee Mulvaney scored on a drive down the left side, and Mussorici did the same on the next possession. Jansen drained a triple for a 46-43 advantage, and her layup put the Saints ahead by five points. Another bucket by Jansen gave Maryville a 52-50 lead before UMSL took a 57-54 margin into the fourth quarter. The Saints hit 8-of-12 shots in the third.

Maryville scored the first eight points to surge back in front. Jansen sank a jumper, and
Karlee Feldman scored inside for a three-point play. Mussorici hit one free throw, and a layup by Kastens was good for a 62-57 lead with 7:39 remaining. Maryville built a 69-62 advantage at the 1:53 mark after Mussorici splashed in a 3-pointer. UMSL sank back-to-back triples to get within one. With the shot clock running down, Jansen swished a step-back jumper with 25.5 seconds left for a 71-68 advantage. The Tritons scored a layup before the Saints tacked one free throw and a 72-70 edge. The Maryville defense came up with a stop, and
Carsyn Fearday grabbed the rebound. She made one at the line for a 73-70 lead with 3.2 ticks remaining. UMSL inbounded in its frontcourt but missed a deep 3-pointer at the buzzer.

The Saints shot 51.9 percent in the game (27-of-52), including 60 percent (6-of-10) in the fourth quarter.
