Lindenwood Recap
Tyler Wenck scored 58 seconds into overtime as the Maryville men's lacrosse team toppled No. 13 Lindenwood 8-7. The contest was the debut for Saints head coach
Scott Stark, who guided Maryville to the victory over the team he used to serve as an assistant coach.
What Happened
The Lions scored the first goal of the game before
Jake Foster tallied two straight to push the Saints ahead. Maryville went up 3-2 on a score by
Ben Foster. Lindenwood went back in front by scoring five of the next six goals for a 7-4 edge at the 11:59 mark of the third. However, the Saints defense would not allow another tally the rest of the way.
Â
Ethan Olson ignited the comeback with a shot from straight on to make it 7-5 in the third quarter.
Reid Usrey sniped in a shot from a steep angle on the left to pull the Saints to within 7-6. Foster completed his hat trick with just over four minutes left in regulation to tie the game and force overtime.
Â
Cooper George won the faceoff to start the extra session to give the Saints the first shot. The Saints circled behind the Lindenwood net, and Wenck collected the ball on the left side. He drove to the center and fired the game winner into the upper right corner.
Â
The victory is Maryville's first over a ranked team since beating No. 18 Saint Leo March 13, 2019. Freshman goalie
Connor Robinson set a school record for saves with 22 in the game.
