Cedric Sengl jump started the Maryville men's soccer offense with a pair of goals as the Saints opened the 2021 spring season with a 3-1 victory over Quincy Friday afternoon at Maryville Field.
What Happened – The Saints opened the scoring in the sixth minute as
Mirza Hasecic took a pass from
Ben Brodie and found the back of the net from 12-yards out to give Maryville an early 1-0 lead. Three minutes later, Sengl collected a pass from
Ricardo Andrade and slid a shot into the lower left corner of the net to put the Saints ahead 2-0. Sengl scored his second goal of the day in the 26
th minute from the top of the 18-yard box to give Maryville a 3-0 lead. The Hawks only goal of the day came after a ball was misplayed by the Saints and trickled into their own net in the 65
th minute to cut the Saints advantage to 3-1.
Inside the Numbers – The Saints held a 10-7 advantage in shots with Sengl leading the Maryville attack with three shots.
Liam Walraven claimed his first win of the year with a pair of saves.
