Volleyball Saints Rally for 3-2 Victory over William Jewell

Maryville volleyball team came all the way back from a 2-0 deficit to rally past William Jewell 19-25, 20-25, 30-28, 25-17, 15-9. The victory is the first of the season for the Saints. Hannah Scrum had 15 kills and 17 digs, while Karolina Rodowski had 14 kills, and Rachel Hurt added 11 kills.
 
What Happened
The visiting Cardinals hit over .200 in both of the first two sets before the Saints extended the match with a thriller in the third. Maryville held a narrow lead for most of the set until William Jewell surged to a 19-16 lead. The Saints were down 23-19 but responded with three straight kills. Mikaela Kues had a kill, and Scrum tacked on two straight. WJC scored to reach match point but Kues and Rodowski had a block and the Cardinals committed an error. Scrum put down a ball for a 25-24 lead for Maryville. The Cardinals again had match point but Scrum saved it with a kill. William Jewell again was up 28-27 before Hurt tied the set at 28-all. Rodowski pushed the Saints ahead, and a WJC hitting error helped Maryville extend the match.
 
The Saints hit a match-high .375 and cruised to the win in set four. Maryville had two different 5-1 runs to take control and force a decisive fifth set. In the finale, WJC scored the first two points. The Saints answered with three straight and seven of the next eight. Hurt and Scrum started the burst with kills, followed by a WJC error. The Cardinals scored to tie the set but a Kues kill was the first of four straight points. The Cardinals had two errors, and an ace by A.J. Hallemann boosted the Saints to a 7-3 lead. The teams traded small runs but the Saints were up 10-8 before taking command. Hurt had a kill, and WJC committed an error. The sequence repeated as Maryville pulled to match point at 14-8. The Cardinals saved one but Rodowski pounded down a kill to give the Saints their first win.
 
Hallemann finished with 28 digs, while Scrum completed a double-double with her 17 digs. Schnell recorded a season-high 45 assists and also notched a double-double with 15 digs.
