St. Louis – The Maryville University women's soccer team came alive early in the second half as
Alex Johnson and
Lexi Gentry each scored to power the Saints to a 2-0 victory over Truman State Sunday afternoon at Maryville Field.
What Happened – After a scoreless first half, the Saints offence came alive as Johnson buried a header off a corner kick from
Rachel Martin in the 47
th minute to put Maryville ahead 1-0. Gentry ripped a shot off of a tap from Johnson from the top of the 18-yard box to give the Saints a 2-0 advantage in the 57
th minute. The Saints defense held the Bulldogs to only one shot over the final 30 minutes of action.
Inside the Numbers – The Saints had a 6-3 advantage in shots Maryville placing five shots on goal. Gentry led the Saints attack with three shots on goal in the match.
Katie Nash made three saves on the day to earn her second consecutive clean sheet.
