Belleville, Ill. – The Maryville women's bowling team finished the first day of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Bowling Championships with a 1-1 record and will need to battle through the consolation bracket to get to the championship match Sunday afternoon.
 
The second-seeded Saints opened the day with a 2-0 victory over seventh-seeded Quincy.  Keagan Trexler threw a 194 to lead the Saints in the tradition game while Brianna Schmidt added a 187 in the winning effort. Maryville won the five-game Baker format set by defeating the Hawks 1,037-864 to advance to the winner's bracket semi-final.
 
The Saints dropped the traditional game 987-889 to the No. 3 seed in the championship, Central Missouri, but then bounced back in the Baker games to defeat the Jennies 909-819 to force a best of seven Baker Match Play set. In the traditional game, Macailin Rodriguez tossed a 208 while Schmidt threw a 205 to pace Maryville. In the third leg of the match, Central Missouri won the first two games with the Saints taking the next two. After splitting the fifth and sixth contests, the Jennie won the seventh game, 213-103 to advance and play the top seed in the championship, McKendree, tomorrow afternoon.
 
Maryville will take on No. 5 seed Lewis in the first match of the day Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. The winner moves on to take on the winner of the Upper Iowa and Drury match at 1:30 p.m.
