St. Louis –
Joey Polak ripped three home runs and drove in seven runs to power the Maryville baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of Rockhurst Saturday afternoon at Weber Field. Polak had two homers and five runs batted in to pace the Saints to a 10-2 victory over the Hawks in the opener. He then had a two-run blast in the nightcap to lead Maryville to a 7-5 win.
Game One:
The Saints offense got things going in the home half of the first as they took advantage of a pair of walks and a single to load the bases with one out.
Elias Stevens drove in a run after a fielding error while
Austin Tapella hit a sacrifice fly to left to drive in another run to give Maryville a 2-0 lead. The Saints extended the lead in the third as
Ben Hopkins drove in a run with a double and
Matt Schuler lifted a two-run blast over the right field wall to take a 5-0 lead.
The Hawks scored a run on a pair of errors in the top of the fourth, but Polak answered with a two-run homer of his own put the Saints ahead. 7-1. Rockhurst plated a run in the eighth with a sacrifice fly to cut the Maryville lead to 7-2. In the home half of the eight, Polak hit his second home run of the game to drive in three runs to extend the Saints advantage to 10-2.
Jamie Young earned his first win of the season with 7.2 innings pitched and striking out seven Rockhurst batters.

Game Two:
The Hawks took their first lead of the day with two runs in the top of the first to take a 2-0, but Maryville answered in the bottom of the inning with two runs of their own. Hopkins started the scoring with an RBI single while Tapella brought home a run after a Hawks fielding error to tie the game at 2-2. The Saints continued to swing the hot bat in the second frame as
Dominic Connolly drove in a run with a single up the middle and scored on Polak's third home run on the day to extend the lead to 5-2.
The Saints added a run in the fifth as Hopkins drove in a run with a single to right field to put the Maryville on top 6-2. Rockhurst cut the Saints advantage to 6-5 as they scored three runs on four hits in the top of the sixth frame. Maryville added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth as
Michael Gould hit a sacrifice fly to left field to make the score 7-5.
Drake Kanallakan tossed 5.1 innings to earn his first win of the season.
