Saints Baseball Uses Late Inning Surge to Defeat Rockhurst 4-2

St. Louis – The Maryville baseball team used some late inning heroics to defeat Rockhurst 4-2 Sunday afternoon at Weber Field. Alex Hoff and Joey Polak each drove in runs in the eighth inning to help the Saints earn the win and secure the weekend sweep of the Hawks.

Game One:
Polak started the Saints offence with a single and scored on a Ben Hopkins double off the left field wall to put Maryville on top 1-0. Rockhurst pulled even with the Saints in the top of the fifth as the Hawks strung together three singles and a walk to push across a run and make the score 1-1. Maryville regained the lead in the bottom of the frame as Elias Stevens hit a sacrifice fly to right field to drive in Dominic Connolly from third to give the Saints a 2-1 advantage.

Rockhurst once again tied the game in the sixth with an RBI single to left to draw even with Maryville at 2-2. The Saints took the lead for good in the home half of the eighth as Hoff scored Jamie Young from first with a double down the left field line and then scored on a Polak single to shallow right field to give Maryville a 4-2 lead. Ryan Louck tossed the final two innings of the contest to earn his second win of the season.
