St. Louis – Southern Indiana used the long ball to sweep the Maryville baseball team Saturday afternoon at Weber Field. The Screaming Eagles hit four home runs en route to a 10-5 victory in the opener. Southern Indiana added another homer and two doubles in the nightcap to down the Saints 10-4.
Game One:
Southern Indiana opened the scoring in the top of first with a two-run homer over the center field wall to take an early 2-0 lead. The Saints answered in the home half of the first as
Ben Hopkins ripped a grand slam homer to right field to put Maryville on top 4-2.
The Screaming Eagles cut the Maryville advantage in half with a solo shot in the top of the second to make the score 4-3. USI regained the lead in the fourth as the Screaming Eagles plated four runs in the frame to grab a 7-4 lead. Southern Indiana extended the lead in the fifth with a pair of solo home runs to push the lead to 9-4.
The Screaming Eagles tacked on a run in the sixth on a throwing error to push the lead to 10-4. The Saints attempted to rally in the bottom of the seventh as
Joey Polak hit his sixth homer of the season to cut the deficit to 10-5, USI was able to get the final three outs to claim the win.

Game Two:
The Screaming Eagles scored runs in the first four innings on eight hits to grab a 5-0 advantage over Maryville.
Joey Polak cut the Southern Indiana deficit in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run blast to make the score 5-2. The Screaming Eagles put the game out of reach in the top of the sixth with four runs to extend the lead to 10-2.
Maryville pushed across a run in the bottom of the sixth as
Matt Schuler hit an infield single to score Hopkins and cut the deficit to 10-3. The Saints continued to rally in the seventh as
Dominic Connolly lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to score
Nick Hofmann and make the score 10-4. The Saints followed up the sacrifice as they placed runners at first and second, but could not push them across as USI forced a groundout to end the game.
