Men's Soccer Falls to UMSL 2-1

St. Louis – The University of Missouri-St. Louis scored a pair of goals early in the second half and was able to hold off a spirited comeback effort by the No. 3 Maryville men's soccer team as the Tritons downed the Saints 2-1 Sunday afternoon at the Lou Fusz Soccer Complex.

What Happened – After a scoreless first half, the Tritons grabbed the lead in the 48th minute to take a 1-0 lead. UMSL extended the lead to 2-0 as they converted a penalty kick into a goal to go ahead of Maryville 2-0 in the 76th minute. Less than two minutes later, Victor DeGiorgio took a pass from JD Sohn just outside the 18-yard box and buried a shot to the lower right corner of the net to cut the Triton lead to 2-1. The Saints had one last chance in the 88th minute as Dom Riggio just missed a shot off a free kick from the 22-yards out that went left of the goal.

Inside the Numbers – The Saints outshot UMSL 13-6 in the contest. Mirza Hasecic paced the Maryville offense with three shots while Eyob Tadesse and Cedric Sengl each had a pair of shots.
