St. Louis – The Maryville men's soccer team exploded for three goals in the first half while the Saints defense took charge in the second half as Maryville defeated McKendree 3-0 Thursday afternoon at Maryville Field. The win snapped a two-game losing skid for the Saints.
What Happened – The Saints cracked the scoreboard in the 18
th minute as
JD Sohn collected a centering pass from
Grady Schliepsiek and slid a shot from six yards out into the lower right corner of the goal to give Maryville a 1-0 lead.
Ben Brodie added a goal in the 29
th minute as he took a pass from
Dom Riggio on a breakaway and beat the Bearcat goalkeeper from 20-yards out to make the score 2-0.
Victor DeGiorgio added to the lead four minutes later with a blast from 10-yards away to put the Saints on top 3-0. The Saints defense took control in the second half as Maryville allowed the Bearcats to get only three shots in the final 45 minutes of the match to preserve the win.
Inside the Numbers – The Saints held a 16-4 advantage in shots with eight of those being on frame.
Mirza Hasecic paced the Maryville offense with four shots while DeGiorgio had three shots in the match.
