Mirza Hasecic scored twice in the second half to boost the Maryville men's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Rockhurst Sunday afternoon at Bourke Field in Kansas City, Mo. The shutout victory is the third consecutive for the Saints to start the 2021 spring season.
What Happened – After a scoreless first half, Hasecic jump started the Saints offense in the 67
th minute as he headed in a corner kick from Cedri Sengl into the lower right side of the goal from 3-yards out to give Maryville a 1-0 lead. Hasecic struck again in the 72
nd minute as he ripped a shot from 30-yards out past the diving Hawks goalkeeper to put the Saints on top 2-0. The Maryville defense did not allow the Hawks a shot on goal in the contest as the Saints have not allowed a goal in the last 295 minutes of play.
Inside the Numbers – The Saints outshot Rockhurst 13-3 in the match with Hasecic and Sengl each recording three shots. Hasecic now leads the Saints in goals with five while Sengl is tied with Hasecic for the team lead in assists with two.
