St. Louis – The Maryville women's soccer team scored the equalizing goal early in the second half, but McKendree scored the game-winner with 52 seconds remaining in the second overtime period as the Bearcats defeated the Saints 2-1 Friday afternoon at Maryville Field.
What Happened – The Bearcats opened the scoring with a goal in the 31
st minute as they placed a shot into the lower left side of the goal to take a 1-0 lead. The Saints evened the match in the 49
th minute as Schmied took a pass from
Erin Barnes and slid a shot from 3-yards out into the lower left corner of the goal to tie the game at 1-1.
The game remained tied until the 110
th minute when the Bearcats scored on a breakaway with a shot from 15-yards out to earn the victory.
Inside the Numbers – The Saints were outshot in the match 14-9.
Alex Johnson paced the Maryville attack with four shots while Schmied added a pair of shots in the loss.
